Jane Barratt is an independent consultant and Global Advisor and former Secretary General of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA). For more than two-decades Jane lead the IFA, an international NGO with general consultative status at the United Nations and its agencies and a non-State Actor at the World Health Organization (WHO). Her leadership continues to help drive the agenda for the world’s population ageing in many intergovernmental agendas including the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing, the Immunisation Agenda 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Among her many current positions Jane is a Member, Equitable immunization as part of primary health care across the life course working group, WHO Immunisation Agenda 2030 (IA2030), WHO Global Network on Long Term Care, WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing, World Federation Public Health Association Immunisation Task Force, European Interdisciplinary Council on Ageing Scientific Board, International Association Geriatrics and Gerontology (IAGG) e-TRIGGER Board, Vision Academy, Baycrest Seniors Care Board, Baycrest Geriatric Centre Board and Vice Chair Baycrest Academy Research and Education Board.
Jane Barratt is the former Secretary General of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA). She held this position from 2003 until stepping down from the position to be an independent consultant and IFA Global Advisor. During her tenure, Jane was instrumental in building an organisation that advocates for the rights and well-being of older adults globally. During her tenure the IFA pledged to view all portfolios through the lens of the action areas and enablers of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing. Key focal areas included adult vaccination, vision and hearing health, age-friendly cities and communities, ageism, elder abuse and long-term care in the context of improving and maintaining functional ability within a healthy ageing model.
Jane’s leadership saw the IFA expand its influence and partnerships, collaborating with governments, NGOs, and the private sector to improve the quality of life for the ageing population. Her background as an occupational therapy, and expert in population ageing and public health provided a solid foundation for her advocacy work. Her contributions have been recognized internationally, with numerous awards and accolades including a member of the WHO Healthy Ageing 50, being awarded the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal and a Churchill Fellowship.
Dr Barratt is laser focused in her engagement as global ageing and healthy systems strategist across sectors and disciplines, as an expert moderator and presenter and member of national and international Boards of Directors. She remains a passionate advocate for older people, dedicating her efforts to ensuring a dignified and respectful ageing process for all.
