Global Insights from Patients, Providers, and Staff on Challenges and Solutions in Managing Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration | Ophthalmology and Therapy
A recent global survey, covering 77 clinics across 24 countries, provided crucial insights into the struggles patients face with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). The voices of 4,558 patients revealed these key modifiable challenges:
- Frequent treatments are burdensome.
- Travel difficulties make appointments hard to keep.
- Long waiting times during clinic visits add to patient frustration.
- Dependence on family and friends for support.
- Limited understanding of their condition and treatment options.
What three actions can we take to do better?
- Offer financial assistance to ease treatment costs.
- Improve appointment reminders to enhance adherence.
- Restructure clinic workflows to reduce wait times and ensure quality patient interactions
